Continue to work to address projects identified in the Facilities Master Plan, through the dedicated budget allocation for capital facility projects per Board policies.
Policy:
Background: The administration prioritized seven (7) tuckpointing projects to be completed this summer. These projects are included in the capital plan and were reviewed by the Facilities Committee prior to bidding. Bids were structured into two base bids, with several alternates, which would allow us the ability to stay within our overall budget.

Summary: The bid opening was held on March 3, 2020. Fourteen (14) contractors obtained bid packages, and seven (7) contractors responded. Two base bids were requested for work at Wheaton North High School and Wiesbrook Elementary School. Alternate bids were requested for work at Bower, Emerson, Hawthorne, Sandburg and Washington schools. Attached is a letter from Legat Architects recommending Mertes Contracting Corp. as the lowest responsible bidder for Base Bid 1 and alternate package in the amount of $306,447, and to Midwest Services and Development as the lowest responsible bidder for Base Bid 2 and alternate package in the amount of $267,000.
Funding: O & M Capital Renewal Fund and Capital Projects Fund
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Education award Base Bid 1 and listed alternates to Midwest Services and Development in the amount of $306,447, and award Base Bid 2 and listed alternates to Midwest Services and Development in the amount of $267,000.
