Type: Action
Subject: Approval of the Renewal of Scantron Achievement Series & Analytics Subscriptions
Vision 2022:
Student Learning
Design curriculum and learning experiences that ensure high literacy and math skills while also developing creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Learning Support Systems
Implement a school improvement system for support and coordination between core instruction and interventions. (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support MTSS)
Background: All elementary and middle school district assessments and the high school academic reading exam are delivered online via Achievement Series. At no additional cost to the district, an increasing number of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are using Achievement Series to administer pre-existing formative assessments or create their own.

Analytics is an online tool which allows administrators and teachers to analyze multiple data sources, including demographics, attendance, and achievement, over multiple years and in relationship to each other. The ability to conduct real-time inquiry continues to play a role in improvement efforts surrounding the goals on the Vision 2022 Dashboard. Recent Analytics projects have included student connectedness work, discipline reform, AP (Advanced Placement) Inspiring Excellence, analysis of factors impacting graduation rates, and a skill profile of students scoring in the yellow/cusp range in math.

Schools also use Analytics on an ongoing basis as part of their school improvement work. District 200 recently became the first district to add an Early Childhood tab, which has enabled staff at Jefferson Early Childhood Center to increase student learning by analyzing their data in the areas of early literacy, math, and SEL (Social Emotional Learning). Analysis of usage data shows that 374 staff across all levels—most of whom in turn shared data with others—logged on to Analytics last year.

The district keeps apprised of available assessment and data warehousing options. Achievement Series and Analytics continue to align best with the academic and fiscal goals of Vision 2022.

Scantron Renewal 2019 2020.pdf
Summary: The total cost for Achievement Series and Analytics, including data integration, test item banks, and development of new tabs in response to the MTSS priorities in Vision 2022 and ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), is $124,115.

Some development fees continue to be waived due to district staff creating designs which are applicable to other districts. Also, in exchange for the Director of School Improvement co-presenting at local or national conferences, Scantron continues to discount our Analytics per-pupil cost and provide the formative question banks for PLCs at no cost. District staff provide all training, resulting in significant cost avoidance.
Funding: District funds are allocated in the Department of Educational Services budget for FY 20.
