Background: The Board approved a one year contract for snack vending services with Park Vending, Inc. in April 2017, with options to annually renew for three (3) additional years. In June 2018, the Board approved a one year annual renewal, and the latest renewal expires June 30, 2019. Currently, Wheaton North High School has three (3) machines, Wheaton Warrenville South High School has three (3) machines, Franklin Middle School has one (1) machine, Hubble Middle School has one (1) machine, and Monroe Middle School has one (1) machine. Edison Middle School currently operates its own machines, and is not part of this contract.

Summary: Park Vending has proposed a one year annual renewal with no changes in the commission structure as to the original contract. However, based on inflation and rising food and beverage product costs, Park Vending is proposing to increase the selling price on some items. The price increases range from $.05 - $.10. Per the contract, Park Vending must adhere to the most current District Wellness Policy in place at all times. Vending machine use and content will comply with all legal and nutritional guidelines issued by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture as they apply to schools and promote student health and reduce childhood obesity, as well as all other applicable federal, State and local laws, regulations and guidelines.

The one year annual renewal would begin on July 1, 2019 and end on June 30, 2020.

Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the one year annual renewal with Park Vending, Inc. for the contract of snack vending in both of our high schools, and three (3) middle schools for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
